Meet our Hamuhk Staff
The great people that keep the shop on Granville Island that test all of your hammock by hand and make sure everyone stays relaxed while shopping.
Colin
Colin is one of the new owners of the Hangout Place on Granville Island, doing his best to fill the shoes of the original owners Mal & BA who ran the place for 25 years.
In fact his first hammock was bought in this very store in 2005 which he still owns and uses daily.
Colin grew up on Granville Island his whole life. First starting at Arts Umbrella as a child and spending lots of time in the Kids Market and the Water Park. Later he attended Emily Carr University as a student while working at the Keg around the corner between and after classes.
Always ready to share his love of hammocks.
Isaac
As Store Supervisor, Isaac has always dreamed of pursuing a career in hammocks.
He spent a few years lost and confused, studying theatre at Studio 58 of Langara College. Alas he has returned to the Hangout Place, where he truly belongs.
Isaac is a talented actor and director, recently directing his first production with the Promethean Theatre Company. Don’t be shy to ask him to perform his amazing one-person show for you while you’re hanging in our hammocks, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
Catch him on his impressive bicycle commute to Granville Island, rain or shine!
Hannah
The newest edition to the Hamuhk Hangout Place family... and the only Australian not working in Whistler.
Zach
Zach knows how to ride a unicycle and knows how to juggle, but not both at the same time. He has goals to achieve this. For now he continues to act and enjoy hammocking.
Sam
Sam likes baking things and dancing. Sometimes she does these things at the same time.
Curtis Montgomery
By far most relaxed employee in the shop since he mostly just lies down in a hammock all day. You can catch him snoring on a quiet day. Curtis is incredibly photogenic while sleeping and loves having his photo taken in the front window.
Yellow is by far his favourite colour since it reminds him of his favourite food: BANANAS

Sunny the Sloth
Sunny is our in-house expert on taking it easy. With a natural talent for slowing down and settling in, Sunny can usually be found gently swaying in a hammock while “testing” comfort levels for the team. He takes his role seriously, especially when it involves pillows, cozy corners, and long afternoon product evaluations.
Sunny’s strengths include staying calm under pressure, creating a peaceful atmosphere, and reminding everyone that rest is productive too. His weaknesses include moving quickly, attending meetings on time, and giving up a good hammock once he’s found it.
Violet the Monkey
Violet brings energy, attitude, and unmistakable style to the shop. Known for her signature sunglasses and laid-back confidence, Violet is a firm believer that every great hammock experience should come with a little personality. She has a sharp eye for comfort, a strong commitment to fun, and absolutely no interest in taking life too seriously.
Whether she’s hanging out in a customer favourite or supervising the floor from the best seat in the shop, Violet helps keep the mood light and the vibes high. She may not always look busy, but she’s deeply committed to the brand lifestyle.
Cactus Everdeen
Our shop cactus that loves to bask in our south facing windows. Loves when you forget to water her and enjoys collecting fake succulents that don't take any soil nutrients.
Cactus Everdeen is not allowed to sit in any hammocks and will never provide you with any shade.
She is prickly.

Georgia
Georgia was born in a hammock! Some years ago in Austin, Texas, Jon and Vanessa had their favourite child in a hammock. Since then, she has grown up loving to relax and chill. She loves exploring the outdoors with a backpacking hammock or being in our shop on Granville Island modelling our Hangout Chairs and reading books.
Georgia loves to travel and try new things, ever eager for a good conversation and happy to help anyone out. Studying Public Health at UBC, Georgia hopes to encourage the use of hammocks for a more relaxed life.
Cactus Everdeen and Georgia are best friends.
Kate
Kate is a Prairie being and West Coast wanderer! Born and raised on Treaty 1 territory; she is a crafty girl who loves a warm cup of coffee, exploring in the forest and simply hanging out at home with their plant babies.
Ben
The looper of loops.
The bowing of lines.
The twister of twine.
A knotter.
The fisherman.
The hammock guru himself.
Mikenzie
Born and raised in the cold plains of Alberta, Mikenzie first experienced joy when she finally sat in a Hangout Chair in 2019. She's never left since the shop once. Seriously! The owners have been trying to get her to leave the chair so others can try it!
In her spare time, Mikenzie works as an arts educator, actor, writer, and all around maker of things. Mikenzie loves chatting with people and recommending super cool spots around Vancouver.
Do not be afraid to ask for suggestions!
Stephen
Stephen used to come eat his lunch in our shop on his breaks. He now works for us because he kept coming back anyways.
Mal & BA Holtby
The Founders of The Hangout Place on Granville Island. You can't get much more original than this staff!
These are the two that started it all here in Vancouver. This shop wouldn't be here today without their hard work, vision and love for each other and their hammock community they fostered.
They are now happily retired and keeping a close eye on us, being mentors and friends to us all along our hammock journey.
